FAQ
What graphic design services do you provide?
I have worked professionally on just about every graphic design project there is—from branding and websites to food packaging and environmental signage. Book a free call with me and let's find out if I'm a fit for your next project.
How many people are on your team?
It depends! When the project requires, I pull in skilled service providers for marketing, copywriting, illustration, web development, photography, and other specialty work. My flexible, as-needed personnel model means you receive full-service studio results with no-hassle, personal support. I manage the project behind the scenes so you only deal with me.
What experience do you have in graphic design?
As a teenager, I distinctly remember seeing a sign advertising The Oregonian and thinking, "Someone was paid to make that? I've gotta do that!"
In my twenties, I took a position as an in-house graphic designer for a Portland, Oregon entrepreneur with a real estate brokerage and private wine label. I dedicated myself to studying graphic design by reading dozens of design books from my local library and putting my new knowledge to work every day for 7 years. This practice developed my results-based design approach.
All my life, I’ve been motivated by the desire for everyone and everything to be more successful after interacting with me. The process and outcome of a design solution should produce joy and delight in myself as the designer, in you as my client, and ultimately in your audience. I look forward to working with you to grow your business with your next project.
What's the story behind the name?
Grafting is a technique of fusing two plants together, commonly used to enhance fruit output or quality. This nurturing horticultural practice connects to my business values on many levels.
Effective Design Most obviously, effective (i.e., fruitful) graphic design requires combining individual elements into a more impactful whole.
Mutual Benefit When my company is in a business relationship with another, both should experience increased productivity and success.
My Role Most meaningfully to me, Jesus used grafting as a metaphor to describe His relationship with His followers: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:5, NIV).
The word "works" can refer to art pieces, tasks, factories, occupations, and so on. Paul, an early Christian teacher and Biblical writer, emphasized humanity's active role in God's work when he wrote, "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10, NIV).
Thus, Grafted Works serves as a constant acknowledgment and reminder of God's hand in my life and work. After all, He is the original and ultimate Designer!
